Theatre This Week: April 4 – 10

These are the plays to check out in Toronto for the week of April 4 to April 10, 2016.

The Judas Kiss

March 22 - May 1, 2016

It’s hard to argue with reviews this good: Toronto press has described Rupert Everett’s physically transformative performance as Oscar Wilde with terms like “fabulous,” “wondrous,” “rich,” and “riveting.” The show is about the writer’s suffering at the hands of a manipulative young lover and repressive Victorian legal mores.

The Death of the King

March 26 - April 10, 2016

The Death of the King follows a family charged with treason after their nation’s ruler is killed. Part murder mystery, part political drama, the play is lyrical and often surprisingly funny. The three central actors often switch characters, and Jani Lauzon’s powerful intensity is especially interesting to watch.

Jitters

March 16 - April 22, 2016

David French’s classic play about what happens backstage at a theatre features oversized egos, ridiculous accents, and clever meta-commentary. This production is funny, dynamic, and elegantly executed.
