A post‑communist fever dream, Kostroma follows a woman attempting to stage a fair election in an autocratic state run by clown bureaucrats; a family reckoning at the end of the world; and a community searching for footing after a failed revolution. There are ghosts, chickens, executioners, and ballrooms filled with shards of glass. Absurd, playful, and queer in every sense, Kostroma bends reality as boldly as politics and family do.
