Theatre This Week: May 20 – 26

Welcome to My Underworld

May 8 - 25

Nine blazing hot works written and performed by new Canadian dramatists with gate-crashing ideas, delicious poetry and unique characters woven into a spectacular journey to the Underworld, in search of the self. They have created current, compelling characters never seen on our stages before, showing us how the very concept of human identity is shifting.

At Soulpepper until May 25. For tickets and more information, click here.

August: Osage County

May 18 - June 23

When their father vanishes, three daughters return home to support their mother. The result is an epic portrait of the modern dysfunctional family. Fiercely funny and bitingly brutal.

At Soulpepper until May 25. For tickets and more information, click here.

Shanawdithit

May 16 - 25

In 1828, Shawnadithit, believed at the time of her death to be the last member of the Beothuk people, was taken to St. John’s by William Cormack. In her final months, she created a series of ten drawings that speak of the loneliness of survival, the beauty of the land, and the life she used to know. This collaboratively-created, multidisciplinary opera brings together Indigenous artists from Nations across Turtle Island to shine a light on a story misrepresented by history.

At the Joey & Toby Tanenbaum Opera Centre until May 25. For tickets and more information, click here.
