Storefront Theatre is Closing
Storefront Theatre has announced that their theatre at 955 Bloor Street West will close on January 31 following a dispute with the building’s landlord over their lease.
“After four years of protracted negotiations with the owners of the 955 Bloor location regarding a long-term lease for The Storefront Theatre, the company is being asked to leave,” publicist Karen Knox said in a statement issued this morning.
Storefront will spend the next few months seeking a new venue.
The theatre’s closure means that none of the shows the company had planned for the remainder of the 2016–2017 season will take place. The company hopes to produce some as Storefront satellite shows at other locations, but no plans are set yet. The monthly cold-reading series Sing for Your Supper will continue at various pop-up locations.
Knox said Storefront hopes to re-open in a new location this fall.
