For Calgary’s Kelsey Verzotti, playing Elle Woods means grappling with high notes, audience expectations, and impostor syndrome

In 2022, Verzotti became the first Asian-Canadian to play the titular redhead in Anne of Green Gables at the Charlottetown Festival. Now, she’s set to shatter more expectations as she tackles the lead role in Theatre Calgary’s Legally Blonde.

Spotlight: Alanis King

The 40-year career of Alanis King began much the same way that so many careers in theatre do: in front of very small audiences. “The show must go on if you have the same amount of audience members as in the cast,” was King’s motto in the early days. But today, the multihyphenate Odawa artist has no difficulty finding people interested in her work.

At Theatre Calgary, Corrine Koslo returns to the role of Madame Arcati after 20 years away

“I’m still flying around a bit but I’m not, you know, leaping six feet into the air and things like that,” says Koslo. “And I don’t need to. Then, I did. That was who I was and that’s who I brought to the table.”
