This November, Theatre Animal is bringing the Obie Award–winning play Grimly Handsome to Toronto for its Canadian premiere.

Grimly Handsome is a triptych of urban stories: two unusual Christmas tree salesmen peddle their wares on the street, two cops are on the trail of a serial killer, and in a vacant lot people transform in ways they never thought possible. The play is a haunting, comic thriller that exposes the underbelly of the city and the animal in us all. Christmas trees. Cops. Pandas. What more could you want?

The cast features Dora-nominated actor Jeff Irving and Shaw Festival favourites Ben Sanders and Julia Course, all playing multiple characters. Shaw Festival veteran Jay Turvey is directing.

Grimly Handsome will be running at the new Assembly Theatre from November 3 to 19—opening on November 4—with music and sound design from Paul Sportelli, lighting design from Mikael Kangas, and set and costume design from Christine Urquhart.

Fun facts! The Grimly Handsome team tells us their animal alter ego.

Jeff Irving

resonated with me. I love how ancient elephants seem, gentle and powerful at the same time.

I was raised around horses, so I'm going to say a horse. Maybe a jumper. Like a spindly-legged, slightly skittish jumper who occasionally soars over the barrier, but sometimes psyches himself out and shies away from it.

An elephant. I read Barbara Gowdy's The White Bone and it really_x000D_
